Popular Literature

What is Literature?

Literature generally can be any written work, but it especially is an artistic or intellectual work of writing. Language usage in literature is sometimes different from how it is ordinarily used. The difference is the use of artistic tools to create aesthetic beauty in a text. Literature is the depiction of society.  It is a great tool to teach morality to society.

       POPULAR LITERATURE

“Popular literature” is, by definition, that which is accessible to a broad cross-section of the population. Its availability depends on the spread of literacy and the printed word, and on mechanisms for publication and distribution at affordable prices, although it can be incorporated into predominantly oral cultures through the literate reading aloud to the illiterate (and parents reading to children).

Popular literature includes those writings intended for the masses and those that find favour with large audiences. It can be distinguished from artistic literature in that it is designed primarily to entertain.

Reading great literature exercises the imagination. We enjoy stories; it is a pleasure to meet characters and to live in their world, to experience their joys and sorrows. In a practical sense, an active imagination helps us perceive truth, make value judgments, and deal with the complexities of life in creative ways.
